...with sewing these little skirts! I can't seem to stop. I have fabric to make another two...even Miss M has said, "I think that's enough summer skirts now Mum!" I may have to start making a few for my two year old niece instead.
I am particularly happy with how thrifty these little skirts are as the fabric I bought from the fantastic Remnant Kings in Glasgow was less than £3 per half metre. I think the prints are so pretty and quite Cath Kidston in style too which is always a winner for both me and my Miss M.
As before, I used the fantastic and simple pattern from here.
I can't believe it is the final of the Great British Sewing Bee this week. I will be so sad to see this series end, I have loved it and have found it so inspiring. I am really looking forward to watching it snuggled up with Miss M tomorrow night...we are hoping for Chinelo to win! Who gets your vote?!
X
...and what a wonderful obsession it is too...those skirts are divine. It is on my to do list for my two granddaughters.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! She's going to love having so many to choose from.
ReplyDeleteThese skirts are so cute. Now for the matching embellished T's! Wendy x
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely obsession! Miss M (and your niece) are so lucky. x
ReplyDeleteThe skirts are gorgeous...you've inspired me to make some for my daughter! S xo
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful! I love the floral prints :)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty skirts Marianne, you're so clever.
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed TGBSB as well, I really wanted Lynda to win but yes, I think Chinelo would be my next choice.
Have a good week,
Kate x
I'm loving Heather at first I was unsure of her but she just makes me laugh!
ReplyDeleteGo Chinelo! She's a natural...as are you, what pretty pretty skirts! I'd make a few in grown-up sizes to match! Cx
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely! As someone who cannot sew anything that is not square, I am always in awe of anyone who attempts 'dressmaking'!
ReplyDeleteM x
Great little skirts. Hate to sit on the GBSB fence but I think it is really difficult to call. The three remaining have got very diverse strengths and though they've made fab items they've also all had some howlers. (say's she who is a total sewing novice!!) I think I'll be surprised if one or other looks like the obvious choice as I think it will probably come down to a judgement call.
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty! Your daughter is a lucky girl, to have such a creative mum with a great taste!
ReplyDeleteHappy week!
Madelief x
I have taught Heidi how to bet. We had 20p each and as I explained how you win both 20p's giving the example that I think Chinelo should win she said OK I will play.... I want Chinelo to win and I had to have her choice which was Linda. So there you are I lost my 20p straight away!!! Clever girl...sneaking that information out of me.... Fantastic skirts though, I make loads of these but I am grappling with jersey this week. Jo x
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty skirts. I can understand why you love making them.
ReplyDeleteThese little skirts are so pretty Marianne. I've really enjoyed the GBSB this time round and I want Chinelo to win too, she's such a talented lady. Have a lovely week, hope Miss M is enjoying her pretty skirts.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Well there are worse things to be obsessed about! Lovely skirts - I quite fancy the red one for myself. Can't believe Sewing Bee is finishing either - Chinelo for me too though I do enjoy all the wacky stuff Tamara makes! x
ReplyDeleteOh they're gorgeous! You had me quite inspired just with the first one and I was all set to make one for my own Miss M, but I'm having trouble with our sewing machine. If (when!) I get the bloomin' thing going I'll have to check out Remnant Kings, haven't been there in years!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skirts in pretty fabrics and fingers crossed for Chinelo ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteI am loving the GBSB too - I love them all, I think this series has been a cracker. Gorgeous, gorgeous skirts, you are so clever. I'd like to have a bash at making something similar for my daughter, thanks for the link to the pattern. x
ReplyDeleteClever you, I think the skirts your making are really good, when my daughter was young i missed out on making her stuff, don't think I had the confidence then. Now your daughtet has lots of skirts, I think it's good your making them for nieces x
ReplyDeleteI make these skirts for myself - must do some for my girlies though! I want Chinelo to win too - the others are a bit annoying and smug! X
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the final tonight, although I'm sad the series is over. I have been totally inspired by the programme and having received the book for Mother's Day, I spent the weekend cutting out paper patterns. One of them was for a skirt very similar to your one here. I can't wait to get sewing!
ReplyDeleteLove the skirts, and your crochet bunting and your pegs !!!
ReplyDeleteThe skirts look so sweet I think I want to make some for my 6 year old too !!
xEva
Beautiful skirts!

I'm looking forward to tonights Sewing Bee and also wish it was longer. I love the skirts, what gorgeous fabric, no wonder you want to make more xx
ReplyDeleteYour skirt sewing is adorable Marianne, love all the fabrics you have used and yes, Chinelo gets our vote too xox I am hoping to sew a couple of African fabric skirts for myself this coming weekend, look forward to dusting off my machine and get cracking again xox
ReplyDeleteHi. There's no such thing as a sewing obsession, it's just something that has to be done, like breathing .......
ReplyDeleteS xx
There are a lot worse obsessions that you could have you know!! If this is the worst of them you are fine! Perhaps you could move on to making some tops to go with the skirts? xx
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous and I bet your little girl is one of the best dressed around.
ReplyDeleteSoooooooooo cute, lovely fabric too
ReplyDeleteClare x
How pretty Marianne!...I love the fabrics and colours...it can only be good when so much loveliness is created as a result...x
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to catching up on The Sewing Bee this afternoon while I'm knitting!
Happy Thursday!
Susan x
Oh just keep making those beautiful little creations Marianne - there will always be little girls crying out for such as these! Sending love, Joy xo
ReplyDeleteHow can you have too summer skirts many when they're this pretty?!
ReplyDeleteWe were rooting for Heather here but Chinelo has awesome talent, and of course she has only been sewing for two years, I can imagine her with her own sewing show in two more!
* too many, not too summer ... my brain clearly can't keep up with my fingers tonight!
DeleteI really love them, hopefully I can convince my 8 year old to wear them too, Lucy
ReplyDeletebeautiful display. love the fabric and the bunting is gorgeous too!
ReplyDeleteThese are really lovely skirts Marianne. My big girl is not so much into wearing skirts and my three boys even less so but I have been sewing other useful stuff, a peg apron for example, and a tunic with only two shoulder seams for a friends daughter. Which Remnant Kings do you go to? Our local one on Crow Rd is not very inspiring. I didn't have much time to explore the one across the river and have never been to the one on Argyle Street.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comments! I tend to go to Remnant Kings on Argyle Street...it has so many gorgeous fabrics and the ladies who work there are really helpful and friendly. I am actually on the lookout for more simple (very simple actually!) sewing patterns and would love to sew a tunic for my wee girl. Can you tell me which pattern you used for the tunic you used? Thank you!
DeleteMarianne xx
Hi Marianne. The tunic pattern is from a German website http://zierstoff.com/de/shop/kleider/kittelkleid-flora-schnitt-e-book-gr-110-152/. There is a YouTube video on the actual pattern site which shows what to do. I think the visual gives you plenty of information to sew the tunic, even if you don't speak German (I don't know if you do). There are only two very short shoulder seams, no hems, no nothing. To finish the tunic you sew bias tape all around the edges. It is very cute when finished. Happy to help if you fancy making it. naulachristina at gmail.com without the spaces.
DeleteStart making skirts for yourself! You can never have too many, even if your daughter thinks she does :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish the sewing bee was on forever, I thought Lynda would win and then she left, and then Chinelo but she didn't, but I was really happy for Heather though because she was really lovely! I think they made Tamara look a little competitive but something makes me suspect this was more in the editing... Who knows. Can't wait for series 3 now!!
Can I be dead nosey and ask did you use twice the waist measurement or 1.5 times? I like the look of your skirts and I'm a bit worried about making one that's too full for my daughter! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi, yes for the skirts above I did use twice the waist measurement and they do look really nice on and not too full. However...I have since made one for myself and for the waist I used 1.5 times my waist measurement.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think wee girls (mine is 7) definitely look sweet in a slightly fuller skirt. Hope this helps!
Marianne xx
Brilliant, thanks Marianne! I'll have a go today :-).

Love the skirts Marianne and your blog (which I have discovered recently). I am planning to definitely do more sewing this summer when I have more time.
ReplyDeleteI have found a couple of French books with simple designs for children and adults. The kid's one is up to the age of 8 or 9 and it is called Intemporels pour les enfants and the adult one is called Cotton, Lin et Liberty. I have never tried any of the designs but they seem very easy and simple. Both books come with patterns. Have a look in google. If you type Cotton, Lin et Liberty on google and you click on images you can get the pics of things people have made. Another source of kids's clothes is a blog I used last year to make a couple of tops for my girls and it is called: craftiness is not optional or something like that. I am a complete novice when it comes to sewing but I think these might be suggestions for easy garments. Have a lovely week,
Pati x
Hi Pati and thank you so much for your comments! Wow some really great simple tutorials on the craftiness is not optional blog. Thank you for directing me towards those...I will definitely be having a go at one or two of the simple tops for my daughter. Also looked at the French books you recommended, some gorgeous simple but beautiful designs on there too. Seeing is becoming a it addictive for me...I even found myself dreaming about sitting at my sewing machine the other day! Have also been looking around and there are some fantastic sewing blogs out there, with some really talented sewers. I am enjoying just having a go at the moment. Thanks again, your tips and moments have been so helpful. Have a great weekend!
