York

The weekend just gone, we spent a lovely couple of days in York. It is such a lovely city, and one which has been on my 'list' of places to go for a while now.

York is quite a distance away for us, over four hours drive...and although Miss M did utter the words "Are we there yet?!" at least three dozen times, it was worth the long journey...

We managed to fit quite a lot in during our wee break...the Jorvik Museum, a lovely walk around the City Walls, the Railway Museum, a boat trip and of course a visit to Betty's tearoom. I liked Betty's but G said that everything was too dainty for him...he likes our local cafe with it's mismatched plates, big mugs of coffee and huge slices of cake! Being in Yorkshire, we all thought it essential to have Yorkshire pudding at least once, so we had it for tea here but oh my goodness the portion sizes were enormous! Even G was struggling and he has a very, very healthy appetite!

So a lovely time was had by all! I do so enjoy visiting new places...I also like that I can record our little trips away on my blog to look back on and remember the things we saw and did.

Remember there is still plenty of time to enter my giveaway here...

Hope everyone is having a great week!

X

  1. I love York, being a Yorkshire girl it has always been one of my favourite places to visit for a wonderful day out. There is so much to see and do especially if you love shopping and beautiful old buildings too. xx

  2. I adore York, so pleased you loved it too. We live just over an hour away, and go there for weekends away just the two of us, without the little people, so as you can imagine it doesn't happen often! The ghost tour is great, there are some fabulous places to eat and the shopping is excellent. Just wandering around taking the whole place in is super special.

  3. Oooh it is definitely one of my favourite places in England. I visited many years ago and we often talk about going back. Hubby has strangely never been. I love everything about the city, from the Minster Cathedral to the Viking centre, and not to forget to mention the ghost story telling boat trip, which was heaps of fun. I am so pleased you had a lovely time and thanks for taking me down memory lane xoxo

  4. I've been to York twice and loved it both times ... such a beautiful old town. So very different than what we have here. I was very much impressed with the museum and York Minster when I was a girl, and my husband and I visited it many years later. It was nice that you got to visit for a whole weekend ... looks like it was beautiful weather too :) Wendy x

  6. What a lovely weekend you've had! I love York too. My favourite thing is walking round the Shambles--there's an old tearoom there (not Betty's) that we always go to and a little old bakery that makes the loveliest bread. We're hoping to go back for another visit soon.
    Have a lovely weekend! x

  7. I was actually born in York, many moons ago and still have relatives there, so I do visit occasionally. I am a great lover of the Shambles and the little market there.
