Daisy Blanket

I finished this wee blanket a few weeks ago now and almost forgot to show it to you! I decided to make it into a baby blanket in the end to give to a friends baby girl...

The pattern for the daisy in the middle of each square was from Cute & Easy Crochet with Flowers by Nicki Trench - I don't think I will ever tire of this book, I adore everything in it. So after making all the daisies I simply crocheted a 3 round granny square around each one. I made 36 squares in total which turned out to be a good size for a baby blanket. I joined the squares together using double crochet...I have to admit that I don't enjoy this part although I do like the effect it gives. I really must learn the join as you go method!

For the border, I did 2 rounds of double crochet and then added a simple shell edging. I love adding borders to my blankets, I think it really finishes them off nicely.

I'm not really sure what brand the yarn was that I used as it was all yarn I had in my stash, but I have a feeling it was probably Stylecraft Special DK.

I am pleased to say that this little blanket was very well received! I really enjoyed making it too.

There has been less crochet than usual happening around here, as is I have rediscovered my little sewing machine and a new love for pretty fabrics...there may be a few sewing posts to come!

Happy weekend everyone!

  2. This is so pretty. Sometimes the simplest designs are really the best because with the right colours they are stunning.

  10. Is it the GBSB that has inspired you to sew? I'm not a sewer (sew-er not sewer obviously) and even I'm about to dust off my machine!

Gorgeous little daisy blanket - the perfect baby gift.

  21. Beautiful Marianne, I love the daisies. I don't enjoy crocheting squares together either (but will happily crochet them til the cows come home). Join as you go is great but you don't get the raised edges that the double crochet creates and I love this effect too. Have a lovely weekend.

    1. Hi Janet the book is Cute & Easy Crochet With Flowers. I'm pretty sure it can be bought online. For the Daisy I used the pattern from the Daisy Scarf in the book and then I think I just crocheted a granny square around it. I can't remember exactly how I did it as it was two years ago and I've made a fair few blankets since then! Hope that helps a bit.
