For My Girl

I have become very aware recently that my Miss M is growing up and now she is seven, that she might not want things that her Mummy has made for much longer. So I have decided that while she is still very happy to have things that I have made for her, I am going to completely take advantage of it and make her lots of pretty things!

Like lots of you, I'm sure, I have been completely inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee and I am loving this series so much. I decided that I wanted to make a little summer skirt for Miss M.

So, I had a look around the internet and found this fantastic tutorial from Punkin Patterns here and also this lovely post from Jennifer of Thistlebear, here.

And so a little skirt was made....

And then I appliquéd some hearts onto a little plain white t shirt from Next to match...

Quite a sweet wee outfit for the summer I think! Miss M likes it very much and she is planning to wear it with some three quarter length white leggings underneath.

I adored making this little skirt and the tutorial from Punkin Patterns was wonderful and so easy to follow, even with my very basic sewing skills. In fact, I liked making it so much, that I am going to pop into Remnant Kings while I am in Glasgow this afternoon (I'm going for afternoon tea with friends from University) and purchase more fabric to make a few more skirts for my best girl.

Happy weekend everyone!

X

  6. This is so adorable!! Sometimes it's not the sewing skill, but the creative skill that makes the cut. This is going to look great together with the leggings. Lucky girl to get handmade outfits from her dear mom ;)

  8. Well done Marianne! I'm not surprised you're going for more material - it's gorgeous. I too have a seven year old girl (8 in August) and she seems to be growing up at the rate of knots! It was such a surprise when the other day she said she didn't believe in fairies any more - that made me quite sad.
    Have a great weekend X

  11. These are beautiful and I love the applique hearts. I've been following the Sewing Bee too with my daughter who is 16. We've been talking about making some summer dresses or skirts for her too inspired by the show.

  12. Wow, these two items are stunning. I recently have cleaned and oiled my sewing machine because I too have caught the sewing bee bug. I have not used a machine for over 20 odd years but I'm determined to give it a go. Well ,I better give it more than a go as I have spent quite a lot on some delightful fabrics. If anything I make is half as good as yours I'd be so chuffed.
    Have a lovely weekend

  18. These are so cute. I love the gingham fabric and your little hearts. You do have a lovely eye for detail :) I've been loving Sewing Bee too and popped into a fabric shop this week to see if I could find a nice easy pattern to try - there were so many women crowded round the patterns I couldn't get near! Looking forward to seeing your new fabric buys. x

I made most of the clothes for my daughters when they were young and they loved them too; like them your Miss M will likely grow up and begin her own sewing adventures!
Happy weekend to you and yours, Joy xo

  27. That is so pretty. I feel the same about my daughter - I've never made any clothes for her on my sewing machine. I've knitted or crocheted accessories and appliqued t-shirts, but never tried actual clothes, but I need to have a go before she out-grows my offers altogether. This has really inspired me, thank you. xx

  33. Oh this is sooo pretty Marianne, I am sure it will get lots of wear this summer. I must say I was really hoping to have gotten around to a little dressmaking this year, but sadly even with the inspiration of the GBSB I still haven't managed it. I however packed a little dress for es that I made for her last easter that now fits her. Well done on a beautiful outfit made xoxo
