Knitting, for a change

It has been a while since I started a new knitting project, or done any knitting at all really. Crochet has really been holding my attention recently. I think it may be because crochet is so much quicker than knitting and I find it easier to remember my place with a crochet project when I've had to leave it for a few days.

As I have enjoyed sewing myself a couple of items of clothing recently, it occurred to me that I have never knitted (or crocheted) an actual garment for myself. I have made lots of scarves, hats, wrist warmers etc for myself and others and a couple of cardigans for Miss M when she was younger, but not a proper garment for me.

So, I am knitting a cardigan. The pattern is this one here. It seems simple enough, being only stocking stitch and garter stitch. Hopefully the shaping and neckbands won't defeat me! Those are the parts which scare me a bit. My mum has said that she will help if I get stuck...she is a fantastic knitter and has made some gorgeous things for Miss M and for me.

So far, I am really enjoying my new knitting project and although I'm sure it will be a number of months until I have a completed cardigan to wear, I am telling myself just to enjoy the process.

What are you knitting or crocheting at the moment?

Many thanks for the get well wishes for Miss M, she is much better and is looking forward to going back to school tomorrow!

  2. Lovely colour. I'm also knitting myself a pink cardigan and really enjoying it. I also have a green scarf on the go which I only pick up now and then - the pattern is quite complicated and I really need to concentrate which limits the time I can spend on it. x

  3. I like that style, I'm knitting a different Sirdar pattern but with the same wool! Your a little further on than me, I started mine last night. Good luck with it!

  4. It will be wonderful when its done. I know what you mean about crocheting though, it does seem to make up much quicker than knitting unless of course you do chunky patterns as I have just done. I am now doing an aran weight wool cardigan which is much slower but nicer to work than the chunky wool with the big needles.

  5. Crochet is much faster isn't it. I've been knitting for years but only just learnt to crochet but the speed difference is amazing! I'm trying to finish crocheting my variegated granny square blanket and knit my cardigan and one for the 7 yr old too. Need more time! X

  6. I love that shade of pink. It is very easy on the eye. I am really busy at the moment, so I am concentrating on one project.....a multi-coloured lap blanket.

  7. That is a nice flattering pattern. I made a cardi from 4 ply a few years ago and was surprised at how quickly it knitted up. I used a bamboo yarn and it created a beautiful drapey fabric.

  19. You chose a beautiful colour for your cardigan! I must admit that I did not make anything recently. I need all my spare time for the garden and photography! Hopefully I will be able to use my crochet needle again in September :-)!

  20. Oh I'm loving that colour, it's beautiful! I'm so pleased you're knitting a cardigan, it's going to look lovely and the complicated bits will help to keep things interesting :-) I'm sure you'll be fine with it but at least you do have your mum to help just incase

I'm crocheting some welly toppers for my friend, I only have a week which is why I went for crochet instead of knitting, and a massive hook!

  22. I like the cardigan pattern you've chosen, it's going to look so pretty in that lovely colour!
It's good to have some long term projects on the go that you can pick up, enjoy progressing a bit then put down - not the same urgency as a shorter project.
Have a good weekend (well not long now!)

  26. Cute cardigan and pretty wool. Your knitting looks so neat. I am knitting a fairisle hat at the moment. It's ages since I knitted fairisle so it isn't without it's imperfections but it's good fun!

  27. Love the colour of the yarn, and good for you giving it a go with knitting again. I'm sure it'll turn out just beautifully. I'm stuck on a lacy knitting pattern that I really just need to find the time to sit down and work out, but I fear it may be a WIP for a wee bit longer!
    Happy weekend, xx
