I enjoy everything about making blankets from planning and choosing the pattern and colours, the excitement of starting a new blanket and of course I enjoy the actual crocheting! I love putting it all together (apart from sewing in the ends, I would be fibbing if I said I enjoyed that part!) and making a pretty border to finish it all off.
I love the fact that the blankets I have made for our house actually get used...especially now the weather is colder. Miss M loves to snuggle under a blanket whilst she reads or watches television in the evenings. They are also used a lot for den building when she has friends over! I love the extra warmth of having a blanket on my bed at night too...and actually G has admitted that he appreciates this too. Surely this is him secretly saying go ahead and make plenty more blankets as they are so cosy and useful?!
My blankets are always made using DK yarn usually a mix of Stylecraft Special and Sirdar Snuggly as I love the colours available in these ranges, they are soft and wash really well too.
My latest blanket which you can see in the last photograph in this post, is almost finished and I am currently double crocheting all the squares together. This blanket will be a Christmas gift for a special work friend. I really hope she likes it.
I have 2 more blankets that I want to make now and am just waiting on a yarn delivery so that I can make a start on one of them. I can't wait!
Do you love making blankets too?
X
Your collection of blankets is beautiful Marianne! I am still working on mine....Wish I had as much time as you have. Love the colours!

You always make such lovely blankets! I love making blankets but never seem to finish them :S that should be my news years' resolution I feel... x
ReplyDeleteI enjoy making blankets as well. You are the second blogger who has recommended Stylecraft yarn today, so I must check out their website.
ReplyDeleteI started using Stylecraft Special DK this year and it is really awesome! Worth the delievery to Germany from the UK :)
DeleteOh what beautiful images. I do like a snuggly blankie or six. xx
ReplyDeleteYou're blankets are sooo pretty! And they all look so warm and snuggly. I like blankets too and would love to make some for us but unfortunately I'm not a quick crocheter and the blanket I've been trying to make for months is still waiting for my attention. Hopefully after Christmas : )......x
ReplyDeleteYou have made some beautiful blankets, its one of my favourite things to crochet. I, like you don't like sewing in the ends. I really must check out the Stylecraft yarn.
ReplyDeleteAll of these blankets look fanatastic. Isn't it the best feeling to know the blankets are used?! I recently got a picture of my cousin's daughter all snuggled up in the blanket I made for her birth 2 years ago. Such a heartwarming thing!
ReplyDeleteTake care
Anne
Oooh, I love to see a big pile of pretty blankets!!
ReplyDeleteI love to make them too; it's comforting and warm and to choose and use all those colours is such a treat! And the best thing is: you can never have enough lying around the house :-).
Love from Mirjam.
You can never have enough blankets-and now you have carte blanche from hubby well it would be rude not to make more.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your wool orders plopping on your doorstep, a very exciting moment.
Helen
Lovely blankets you have made! I can so relate to your feelings on the whole blanket making process. I say you can never have too many blankets :)
ReplyDeleteBirgitta xx
Your blankets are so pretty. I love the way they all look together. I make more blankets than anything else myself; I really believe you can't have too many. I should put all of mine together sometime. Your style is so cohesive and consistent, you really have great taste!
ReplyDeleteAll your blankets are so lovely. I'm just finishing off a small blanket and then I can go back to my king size one.
ReplyDeleteCan you please tell me what book has those rose granny squares in the pic?
ReplyDeleteHi there
DeleteThe pale green granny blanket with different coloured roses is from Cute & Easy Crochet and the book below with the pink toned blanket is from Cute & Easy Crochet With Flowers. Both books are by Nicki Trench.

weee, great pile of blankets you just want to dive into - love the colours - well done!
ReplyDeleteCaz xx
I love making blankets too! I love the making, the snuggling under them, the whole thing, just as you describe. I love too the fact that you admit that you don't like sewing in the ends - I don't either!! xx
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I learnt to crochet just to be able to make a blanket and it's still my favourite use of the skill!
ReplyDeleteYour blankets really are lovely, the colours all go so well together, Marianne. As a beginner crocheter, I've only made one blanket so far. Got plans for more though! xx
ReplyDeleteI love a blanket on the go in the background but I am too much of a speed merchant to be working on just a blanket - I admire that sort of stickability in people. You have a great collection there. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI love the blankets but my time and attention span let me down which is why I end up making cushions. Lucky colleague getting that blanket. I am sure they will be thrilled.
ReplyDeleteHello again lovely - it's so nice to catch up here again at last - IG is great but I do enjoy a little bit of chatter on your blog x Your blankets are always so lovely, as are all your projects - keep up the great work, you are inspirational. Sending love, Joy xoxo
ReplyDeleteIf ever anyone needed to be told they were hooked (sorry about the pun) on blankets... they are lovely, your colour choices are perfect, is the wool you use pure wool or a mixture?
ReplyDeleteHi there
DeleteIt's always acrylic I use but I honestly can't recommend enough Stylecraft Special DK and Sirdar Snuggly DK. I nearly always use a combination of both for my blankets. Both yarns are gorgeous to work with, feel really soft, wash well and are sensibly priced too.

Beautiful blankets. I enjoy making blankets too. Your latest blanket looks very pretty. Enjoy using them with your family xx
ReplyDeleteAll your blankets are beautiful, Marianne, such gorgeous colour combinations and patterns. Your friend will be delighted with the blanket you are making for her, I am sure! It is fun to plan the next one, I agree.....and I also agree about the sewing in of the ends being the only chore! I am looking forward to more blanket making over the coming year, and look forward to seeing the ones you make.....you can't have too many, and they look so nice piled up together like the ones in your top picture!
ReplyDeleteHappy cosy crafting!

I love handmade blankets stacked up in a pile (like in your first photo). I have never made a blanket, although we do have quite a few throughout our house, and all get well used. I started some squares last year, but they fell by the wayside. I am determined to have a go again this winter as I really want to see a finished blanket made by me!! I think the hardest part for me is planning (too many ideas). Your newest blanket looks so pretty, and I'm sure it will be well received. Wendy x
ReplyDeleteI love your blankets, they are gorgeous. I love the thought of making blankets, but as soon as I start one I seem to get bored. I have one started and a baby one to get busy on, but Christmas has sidetracked me a bit.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Yes. I lovemaking blankets. Especially starting them. Not that great at the finishing part but hey ho!
ReplyDeleteJillxo
Hello Marianne! I awarded you a Liebster - take a look of my last post! Have a great week end!
ReplyDeleteOh M you put me to shame. I must finish my variegated one! x
ReplyDeleteLovely blankets, Marianne!! I am in the process of using the leftovers of my stylecraft dk stash and can't wait to start planning a design and colour combo for a new blanket..... Have a lovely week, Pati xx
