The Sewing Bee Effect...

Since the new series of The Great British Sewing Bee started a couple of weeks ago, I have wanted to do some sewing. I was exactly the same last year! I am enjoying this series so much and have once again been inspired to buy pretty fabric and dust down my sewing machine!

I bought some ditsy floral fabric from Fabric Rehab online - a metre of soft cotton lawn. It was £7.20 per metre which I thought was pretty good. I love the print and the fabric feels like good quality.

Today I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours making myself a scarf. It only took me a couple of hours from start to finish and was a simple project to get me used to using my sewing machine again. I wear a scarf everyday and I think this one will become a new favourite!

Even better, I still have half a metre of the fabric left! Any ideas what I could make with it? It has to be simple as my sewing skills are pretty basic!

Are you enjoying the sewing bee too?

X

  9. Scarf is lovely. I have a little machine like yours. Surprisingly good for its size. I am watching the sewing bee too. Hope the out come will be more fair than last times. I thought the winner was judged more on the accessories than the actual sewing. Very good so far.

  12. I'm loving the Sewing Bee! It reminded me that I bought some fabric and patterns last year and still haven't got around to making them. Lovely scarf and the lace trim is so pretty. Is that a new haircut too? x

  14. Beautiful scarf; that fabric is gorgeous. I'm just getting into the Sewing Bee too - I'm not sure my sewing skills are up to making something I'd actually wear though! Have fun with the rest of the fabric, whatever you decide to make with it. x

  17. It's a lovely scarf. I like the little lace trim you added at both ends. So pretty! The remaining half metre will make a nice simple tote bag for spring, I think. X

  19. I am thinking about making a similar one in Liberty scraps. How about a pencil case for your little one with the other half to ease you into putting in a zip in a low pressure situation!. Jo

  25. It's addictive isn't it!! I used to work with Deborahs husband Terrance (he keeps appearing in vox pops talking about her sewing) which is so weird! I've started a top but I'm taking my time (unlike the poor contestants) and doing it properly.

Really love the scarf, I've got the book too but only made the bag so far. With your leftovers you could make a cushion to practice inserting a zip :-)

  26. Love the sewing bee.... I have a couple of metres of fabric that I am planning to use to make my daughters a couple of summer shirt / tunics for the summer. I have been searching for ideas/patterns on Pinterest.... And can't wait to have a bit of free time to get started....! I have only made 3 things before but am planning to sew more this spring....Pati x
