Loving Lavender

I really love lavender, it's one of my favourite scents. Our lavender is blooming well at the moment and I am so enjoying snipping little bunches of it to have around the house. The scent is just lovely, very calming and perfect to have on my bedside table. I enjoyed making the tiny little hearts to decorate the vase as well, a lovely idea which I saw on a blog recently, although I cannot for the life of me remember which blog it was, hopefully it will come to me....

Have you ever been to a lavender farm? After reading this post from Gillian of the lovely Tales From a Happy House blog way back last year, I have really, really wanted to visit a lavender farm. Unfortunately I don't think there are any in Scotland....although I may be wrong, does anyone know? I had a look around the internet but could only see links to lavender farms in England, and the nearest one looks to be around 4 hours drive away. Maybe I could persuade my little family that a short break around the vicinity of a lavender farm would be a very good idea!

  1. Oh I love lavender too. My French lavender is growing nicely at the moment but I need to get another plant as my UK variety died :( Must check out a farm though, that sounds wonderful! I've also just ordered some lavender oil to fragrance my cleaning solution.... x

  5. Your pics are beautiful Marianne, sharp and clear, and I am especially attracted to the shot of your vase with the lovely little heart on; I also love lavender and just this week saw in our newspaper that a gorgeous new pink shade has been released so I'm hoping to find it locally. I hope you find a farm to visit where you won't have to travel too far!
    Enjoy your Sunday! xoJoy

  6. Hi I don't know about a whole farm but you used to see lavender growing in East Lothian. There were a couple of fields on the hill off to the right as you drove south down the A1 between Haddington and Dunbar. Not sure where you are but hope that gives you a clue... Eleanor xx

  8. Would you like to share the pattern to crochet
the little love heart? I'm a psycho knitter, I do
a little crochet work but need instructions when
it comes to crochet. The little hearts are lovely.
    Cheers, Anita.

  9. I love lavender too. We visited Yorkshire Lavender last year but it had been such a cold winter that the lavender wasn't in bloom yet - very disappointing. Hope you manage to find a farm near you. Loving your photos this time - the composition/staging was wonderful. x

  10. Your little lavender vase with the heart is so sweet and simple, I love it, what a great present it would make! When the lavender dries up you might be able to make something so you can have a little scented pouch :-)

I've never been a to a lavender farm either, but right now with my hayfever as bad as it is the last thing I want to do is go outside ;-) x

  11. Oh, how pretty your case looks with the lavender and hearts. I love the scent of lavender too and really enjoy it when I am filling my lavender bags to sell. I'd love to go to a lavender farm but I don't think there are any locally. Thank you for your kind words on my last post. XX

  14. My lavender isn't out yet. None of my flowers are madly blooming yet, not even my honeysuckle! :(
I think I may have to visit the local lavender farm soon just to see what it looks like! Apparently there is one less that 15 miles away from Liverpool; who knew?

  15. Your little vase of lavender looks lovely and I love those sweet little hearts. Love the lavender bag on top of your pretty linens too. We have a lavender farm Downderry Lavender) about 10 mins away in Tonbridge, which isn't much help to you I'm afraid as we're right down in the south of England. I haven't been there as I never seem to be free on one of their open days. Have a lovely week.

  17. Your lavender in the beautiful vase with the lovely heart has reminded me that I must go out and pick some lavender before it goes over! I hate to in a way though because the bees love it so much and I feel mean taking it away from them! Hope that you can find a lavender farm to visit and that you have a great time when you do! xx

  19. Lavender is one of my favourite scents too. And I bought a bar of lavender soap in Marseilles a couple of years ago, so that photo brought back special memories! We had an opportunity to go to a lavender farm during that same trip, but I declined and we went on alternative trip (can't remember what the alternative was now). I've now planted what I hope to be a lavender hedge beside my front door ... it'll be a few years before it's hedge size though. Have you ever made lavender bundles? Keep the stalks long when you snip off the flowers, tie the bundle tightly with string at the base of the flowers, bend the stalks up around the flowers and tie that portion of the stalks above the flowers (I hope this makes sense). The flowers are then in their own little cage of stalks. I hope my flowers bloom this year!! Wendy x

  21. I associate the scent of lavender with my late dad. He loved it so much and I do, too. I have a lavender hedge if that is any good? It is not as impressive as Gillian's farm of course but lovely all the same. The crochet hearts are so so cute. x

  22. Funnily enough I drove past a Lavender farm today but it is in Norfolk (Norfolk Lavender). I love these fronds of scent and watching the bees busying themselves around it. I hope you find one more local xx

  27. You've made me want to re-visit that lavender farm! I wish we had one locally in Yorkshire, I don't know of any. I love the theme of your post, and the way you personalised your jars with those little hearts. I remember reading somewhere that lavender helps you sleep, and i also like to have some on my bedside table. x
