Quality time...

...the last few days of the school summer holidays are over and my Miss M goes back to school tomorrow.  We are both quite sad about this - we've had a really nice summer, even though the weather has very rarely been summer like!

Our baking challenge continues! The first week was a disaster....we made 'Cake in a Jar' and it looked and tasted awful! This week we made a chocolate cake with vanilla icing (which my girl piped on, she loved doing this) which I'm glad to say was so much nicer.

We went to do some ceramic painting which is one of our favourite things to do together.  I painted the little cow you can see in the photo which Miss M has named Daisy - very original!

We went to see the Kelpies which I loved - they are so impressive! The weather was very cloudy and grey that day but somehow it added to the experience for me and I loved the way the Kelpies looked against the moody sky. On the way home we went to Kelvingrove museum in Glasgow which is one of Miss M's favourite places to go.

My girl was very keen to do some sewing using the sewing machine and she ended up spending an afternoon making a pile of cute little cushions to give to her friends!

I had a go at some amigurumi this week and made this little cat which Miss M had seen in my Simply Crochet magazine and loved. I have to say...amigurumi is not for me! All that counting! I didn't really enjoy making it to be honest and the poor little cat is quite wonky! But my girl likes it and that's the main thing. I'm just hoping that she won't ask for anymore amigurumi toys...blankets and cushions etc are more my thing!

So back to the usual routine for us tomorrow...but then I've told myself it won't be long until the next school holiday!

Wishing you all a lovely week.

X

  1. The Kelpies look amazing, I would love to go and see them and that's an impressive pile of lovely cushions by Miss M, she obviously takes after her mum with her sewing skills. Hope the routine isn't too difficult to settle into after a lovely summer hols. Have a good week. Jane xx

  2. The cake looks yummy - well done to your daughter with the piping and her cushions are amazing! I can well imagine that a moody sky would add to the experience of seeing the Kelpies - they really do look rather special. Good look with the new term - the C word will be with us before you know it! xx

  3. You have a very talented daughter, her cushions look fantastic. I had a go at amigurumi this week too, I did a penguin pram toy and like you was not keen. We are already showing signs of autumn and yet I don't feel that we have any summer.

  4. I have a difficult time with amigurumi too! Not even sure that I can spell it!!! However, your cat looks great and will be loved, and that is all that matters isn't it! Your photos of the Kelpies are wonderful, so moody and atmospheric, and the Kelpies themselves look a darker more interesting colour somehow. Hope that your daughter enjoys going back to school and sharing the pillows with her friends! xx

  6. Lovely post...I enjoyed seeing the Kelpies, and your painted pottery....and how clever your little girl is to make such lovely cushions for her friends! It sounds as if you have had a wonderful time together over the summer holidays, and I hope Miss M enjoys her first week back at school.

  8. Crafting with kids is one of my favourite things to do. Putting faces on soft toys however isn't. I am not a fan of crochet toys either, all that counting and trying to make two of everything the same!. Glad you had happy holidays. Jo x

  12. Reaching the end of the first week back at school here too, though it didn't feel like a summer break this year. Kelvingrove is great for kids and the kelpies look good too. Hx

  14. Aren't the Kelpies fab. Love them! I made a little amigurumi owl for Isaac, it ended up looking more like a boiled egg with eyes but he liked it anyway! X

  15. I'm glad you've had a lovely summer with your girl. I'm also feeling sad that the holidays are about to end. We still have more than a week to go and we're just really enjoying these last days before school starts again. Your makes are always pretty and sweet and the pillows and crochet pussy cat are no exception. X
