The thing with making so many blankets recently is that I have acquired rather a lot of leftover Stylecraft Special DK! So I have decided that I am going to try to use some of it up before I allow myself to buy any more yarn, or start any more blankets for that matter. I now have a few crochet projects on the go...
I had quite a bit of leftover pink from making Miss M's pink sweetie blanket a few months ago. So I am working on a pink and cream granny stripe tea cosy from the book above - Granny Square Crochet by Catherine Hirst. I received this gorgeous book as a Christmas gift last year but had yet to make anything from it until now...
From making my very first granny blanket I had quite a lot of leftover yarn which I then used to make my little crocheted cushion. However, even after that there was still a small amount left in each colour except clematis! So I am now making some sweet little egg cosies from Cute & Easy Crochet by Nicki Trench. I am enjoying crocheting these so much, they are so quick and simple...
Finally from my most recent blanket, the ice cream blanket, I have been working on a little crochet make using only the pink and cream. I am actually hoping to finish this off tonight, it just needs making up really so it looks like I will still have some leftovers to find a use for...
Is anyone else trying to use up their stash of yarn (or fabric!) at the moment?
X
Oooooh! Are you strong enough to resist the temptation to buy new yarn for a while? We'll see then?
ReplyDeleteLovely subject matter on the go - and the Granny Square book looks very interesting!
I am busily knitting at the moment but can hardly wait to try out some new crochet projects - and I'm way behind in putting out a post - ah well, at the right time ... ...
Have a happy week!

Good on you for attempting some stash-busting! I SO need to do that with my fabbrics!!! :-)

Oh the challenge of stash busting- I would just be so tempted to buy new stuff!
ReplyDeleteI sort of love stash busting as much as getting the new stuff, it is a different kind of thrill. You have some great stuff on the go there. Jo x
ReplyDeleteYes trying to stash bust my fabric but only because I've ordered more and need the room! Love the colours of your new crochet. Julie x
ReplyDeleteHi Ladybird - just found your blog and love it. I am new to blogging and crafting but am learning so so much from everyone - I visit quite a few of your favourite blogs. Would love to put you on my favourites list if you are ok with this? Love your blanket it is just stunning.
ReplyDeleteLots of love

I've been making an afghan to use up my stash of yarn. It's tough not buying yarn but I really want to get rid of some yarn I've had around for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling I have a lot of left overs here too! Very cute little egg cosies x
ReplyDeleteJust wait until I'm stash busting, way to go yet though....lovely colours! :) x
ReplyDeleteI've been stashbusting too. I can't wait to see what you make, the colors are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe crochet bunting from Nikki Trench's book is a fantastic way to stash bust, you must give it a go! Very quick and easy - and I love the stash busters you have on the go! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteNot stash busting here, although I reckon I could work from my stash for a couple of years or more! Yarn collecting is a whole other hobby for me ;)
ReplyDeleteI seem to be much better at stash-building than stash-busting. Need to turn that around ...
ReplyDeleteI actually need to finish something first to have some left to bust! And my fabrics seem to be breeding and growing on their own! x
ReplyDeleteThe collecting is half the fun for me ... I can't resist fabric ... I do love to stroke it ... weird ... me????? ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteI'm not that successful with busting my stash. Whatever I find to make usually leads to buying just one more colour (or three) to finish it off.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you create.
S xx
Stash busting is such fun as you can zip through faster, smaller projects and it never gets dull. I think I'm done with my stash busting for now - I'm building up to starting a couple of big projects so they should keep me quiet for a few months! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm currently working through my stash now too! It is fun to pick out quick projects to help use up all the beautiful yarns I've been accumulating. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the colour combinations, the top picture makes me think of raspberry ripple ice cream!! XX
ReplyDeleteLoving what you are doing with your left over stash. I got that book for my birthday and I have to say I love it. I have already made something from there (a present so can't show) and have just started a blanket from there in stylecraft, so I am sure there will be loads of leftover yarn to use up. I normally use it to make flowers or bunting of some description. Loving all that pink, just perfect for this weather! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat is a great book, shall be interested to see your stash busting project from it :)
ReplyDeleteThe book looks lovely and so does your new blanket....how sweet the little egg cosy is, such a great idea for using up small amounts of left over yarn.

I have lots of super dk left from a granny stripe blanket I made - I love the little egg cosies, very tempted to have a go at these instead of buying yet more yarn! x
ReplyDeleteI am terrible at using up my stash. Like someone else said, I end up buying something to go with what I need to use up. In fact, I've just done this only to realize that one of the new colors I picked just doesn't match well. Back to the yarn store for me and I still have that extra non-matching skein. So what I mean? I AM terrible.
