We got back this afternoon after spending 4 days in Berlin. We had such a fantastic time! We really went because we wanted to go to the Christmas markets...G and I have wanted to do this for such a long time, and we weren't disappointed.
The markets were truly magical - there was so much to see, gorgeous treats to eat and of course so many pretty things to buy. Everywhere you looked, gluhwein was being sold and G certainly enjoyed a few of those! I have to say, it really wasn't for me and I much preferred drinking the apple tea on offer. It was very cold and even snowed, so hot drinks were certainly needed to keep the chill away. Miss M and I also really enjoyed eating potato fritters with apple sauce and hot waffles with Nutella! There were also lots of merry-go-rounds and old fashioned carousels...Miss M had a great time going on those. We all went on the giant Ferris wheel you can see in the pictures and it was lovely to get such a great view of the city from way up high.
As well as visiting the Christmas markets we did quite a bit of sightseeing, taking in the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the Holocaust Memorial. We also went to the Musuem for Natural History with the main purpose of seeing the dinosaur exhibits (Miss M is a huge dinosaur fan!) and Legoland which was great too.
We bought a few little souvenirs which I will show soon when I get a chance to take some photos of them.
We are all pretty tired this evening, in fact Miss M is already fast asleep in bed, so I am planning a relaxing evening catching up with some blog reading and some crochet! Its great to be away, but I also love coming home to my cosy little house!

That looks an amazing place to visit. So lovely and festive too.
ReplyDeleteVisiting a Xmas market somewhere more exotic than Manchester is on my wishlist! Your photos are beautiful. I absolutely love the one of the Ferris wheel - the colours are gorgeous and it's so atmospheric. My German friend keeps inviting us to meet her in Berlin and I really must take her up on the offer one day as it looks a really interesting place. x
ReplyDeleteLooks truly magical! :) x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful trip! We visited Christmas markets in Toronto last weekend and loved them. I have always wanted to go to the European markets and this was the next best thing!
ReplyDeleteOooh, we went to Berlin in the summer, a couple of years ago. It's got an 'air' about it, hasn't it? It's steeped in so much history. I should just love to visit at this time of year, lucky you! Your photos are just glorious.
ReplyDeleteDid you try a bratwurst sausage? My husband loved them; not my cup of tea at all!!! :-p

I agree with you about how lovely is to go away but also just as lovely to be back in your home !
Have a good day,

Christmas markets like this are so much fun! I haven't experienced them in Europe except in the Czech Republic. They didn't have the carousels but it was still lots of fun. I tried Glu Wein. It wasn't my favourite but it was so cold outside and I'd walk for hours at a time that I thought I would do like the locals. xx
ReplyDeleteI went to Berlin last month but it was to visit family and they "don't do" the Christmas Markets or gluhwein (that's for tourists) spoil sports !!!! The Markets were just being set up so I can imagine the atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI did manage to get in a little shopping though, te he
Hugs x
Such a wonderful trip! I loved seeing your atmospheric photos, and it sounds like a really packed and interesting time. I love Christmas Markets!
