Edinburgh

Last Wednesday on a whim, we decided we would go away for the weekend. We wanted to go somewhere which wasn't too far away, but which had lots to do and see for the 3 of us. We decided on Edinburgh...

The Scott Monument...

Edinburgh castle...

The Royal Mile in the Old Town with it's beautiful historic buildings...

The Old Town has lots of 'closes' (alleys) which add to the atmosphere of the area...

A pretty yarn shop. I had a little look inside but was very restrained and didn't buy anything...

Giraffes on Leith Walk...

Greyfriars Bobby and Greyfriars Kirk...

We also visited the National Musuem of Scotland and spent hours inside. It was fantastic, there is so much to see and do we just didn't have time to see everything. Oh well, we will just have to return soon! As you can see from the photos, our favourite area was the natural world section. It was truly amazing...

Lots of other things to see as well, we loved these old typewriters...

And station signs...

We had a fantastic weekend, there is just so much to see and do in Edinburgh, it was really great. Hopefully we will be able to return in the not so distant future, to do and see all the other things we didn't have time for.

Back soon with some sewing...

X

Edinburgh is a great city and I am going back in August with my best friend for a girlie weekend with afternoon tea, lots of shopping and hopefully a visit to see the pandas.

Have only visited Edinburgh once - when I was pregnant with BigSon - I do remember him jumping when the canons went off!

  10. I've only ever been to Edinburgh on conferences so never had time to explore properly. One time my hotel room looked right out onto the castle - it was so amazing all lit up at night. And a random guy said 'you're beautiful' as I walked past him in the street - love Edinburgh! And love those giraffes. x

  11. Oh thank you so much for a beautiful trip to Edinburgh! It's many years since last I was there - we used to live in the south-west of Scotland and have now been in the south-west of Western Australia for many years! Much too far for an impromptu visit - but one I'd love to take!
Your pics are delightful, and so nice to see Greyfriar's Bobby sitting up there still - such a tear-jerking story! The yarn shop looks so quaint - you did well to not succumb to its temptations!!!
A huge thank you! Joy x

  12. We were in Edinburgh today! Mainly at the castle and around the Royal Mile.
I can't ever hear of Greyfriars Bobby now without it's rhyming slang equivalent coming to mind, which rather spoils the story somewhat!
