My friend's wee boy turned two last week. Like many little boys his age, he absolutely loves cars. As part of his birthday a gift, I made him this cushion...
I think he quite liked it because when I gave it to him, he hugged it a lot and shouted "cars" several times! As usual, I just bought a plain cushion (navy this time from here) and used bondaweb to appliqué on the felt and fabric car shapes, then added some bright buttons for the wheels. It was quite nice to make something for a little boy for a change as I often make things for wee girls having a daughter myself as well as six nieces!
Above is a little cross stitch picture I am working on for another friend who is due to have a baby boy next month. It is another Stitching Shed kit and has been so nice to work on, such lovely bright colours and a sweet design.
I am also busily working away on the little knitted blanket for my friends wee girl, as well as an appliqué picture, crochet brooches, and hopefully Miss M's little summer dress! Lots and lots to keep me occupied! What are you knitting, stitching or crafting at the moment?

Lovely gifts. Handmade things are the best :) The cushion is lovely, it looks perfect, you must have a very steady hand to sew so evenly! xx
ReplyDeleteI love your work . So good to see such a simple idea look so absolutely stunning. Love it all
ReplyDeleteYou are quite a busy bee at the moment! I have a crochet baby blanket as a gift on the hook right now, plus a few embroidery projects that I'll probably have to take on holiday to actually get started, the list could go on, no doubt like me you have a zillion others ideas and projects in your imagination! Your gift recipients are very lucky indeed! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented, I am sure your little one loved it. Really admire your cross stitching....it's coming along so nicely!

The cushion is adorable! You did a great job on it and I love his reaction when you gave it to him. That's so cute. The cross-stitching is looking terrific; I'm working on a small one right now myself and I have a bigger sampler planned for later in the summer. It's such a relaxing craft.
ReplyDeleteThe buttons on the cars are so great, they really make it. Jo x

ReplyDeleteAah, so cute - I love his reaction! I'm knitting a cushion and have another little quilt on the go. Hoping to make progress on both this weekend though I need to do some gardening too. x
ReplyDeleteHow my son would have loved that cushion when he was that age. He was obsessed with vehicles, buses, trains, bin wagons he used to make me sit and draw them for him. What a wonderful gift. Sarah x

You are busy!! The car cushion is lovely, it's very sweet. I should make something similar for my son, he'd love it. I am trying to finish a large granny blanket...I'm a bit bored of it to be honest - it takes hours to get all the way round it! x
ReplyDeleteI love the cushion, it's so much harder to make things that boys will like, but you've really nailed it. I am making a bag with a rabbit on for a friend's birthday tomorrow, so I'd better get on with it! Julie x
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I've just read the whole of yours and now feel very inspired. Your Miss M is the same age as my Miss E so I will show her some of your projects! x
ReplyDeleteI love the car cushion. I really should make something like that for my boys. I'm always so busy sewing pretty flowery things, mainly to sell, that I don't always make time to create things for the boys. It is possible to make lovely things even with a boyish theme. Fiona x
