Slow chutney making

Yesterday I made plum and spiced apple chutney in my slow cooker. This was the first time I had made any kind of chutney and I really enjoyed making it. Miss M helped me by helping de-stone all those plums and also peeling the garlic - she loves being my little helper in the kitchen! I had a little taste when it was ready, and it's nice, the taste and texture is a bit like mango chutney so it will be good with curries as well as cheese etc. I have a little slow cooker recipe book and the recipe came farm that, but it is very similar to this recipe but with half the amount of sugar and cider vinegar. This morning while G took Miss M swimming, I enjoyed making the jars look pretty with some fabric and nice labels (always my favourite part of any project - the making pretty!)

Above is a cross stitch kit which I plan to start this weekend - when it's finished I'm going to have it framed and give it to my gran for her birthday. Today there is no rain (for once) so I'm just going to make some sandwiches as we are off a long walk and then home for chicken nachos for tea. Can't wait...
Hope everyone has a great weekend whatever you are doing and thanks again for visiting me here and for your lovely comments on my scarf :)

  3. Hello, newbie here, I found your blog through Vintage Vicki and it is lovely! I have yet to read through your older posts but believe me I will.
I've wanted to make jams and chutneys for a while but always thought they'd be too time consuming, but you actually make it look like fun! I intend to give it a go as soon as I can.

Also, love the cross stitch, it's been a long time since I did any stitching and now you've put the idea in my head :)

  5. The chutney looks lovely and reminds me that I have some plums in the freezer! The cross stitch kit is so sweet. I used to do a lot of cross stitch until I discovered quilting - maybe I should hunt out my threads. x
